Axe (Newton-on-the-Moor and Swarland)

[Marginal] A bronze socketed and looped axe-head 3-1/2 inches long, with splayed cutting edge, found in the Swarland Burn near Felton. Loaned to the Society of Antiquaries, Newcastle by Mr A R Robson, Swarland Mill. (1)

Socketed and looped celt 3-1/2 inches long; cutting edge 2 inches across and slightly curved. The socket is 1-1/4 inches square with rounded corners and at the socketed end the metal is 3/16 inches thick. The loop is a plain one 5/16 inches across. The celt is entirely devoid of ornamentation. Found by Mr M Robson of Swarland. (2)

[NU 15870117] Found approximately 200 yards below the bridge carrying the Swarland-Longframlington road. [Site indicated]. (4)
