Roman period iron working site (Longframlington)
[NU 12830425 and NU 12800418] Slag [Symbols representing two heaps shown]. (1)
To the west of the house at Canada, on both sides of the stream is a deposit of slag from an iron furnace. From the imperfect manner in which the metal has been extracted (half the iron remains in the slag) it is probable that it was a Roman work. (2)
On a farm called Canada are large heaps of 'scoria', considered to have been produced by smelting iron-stone under the direction of the Romans. (3)
No trace remains of any heaps but slag with a high iron content was found in both the positions indicated by authority (1). (4)
Previous authority F1 confirmed. (5a)
