9/224. Church of St James. Parish church by W S Hicks, 1884. Incorporating some features from the 12th century predecessor. Stone. Free 14th century style. (1)

Work in 2007 revealed an undated skeleton buried at the step into the church porchway. (3)

* an oak board with the inscription "IN MEMORY/ OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE/ GREAT WAR/ 1914-1918/ (NAMES)/ THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE".
* a wooden reredos screen inscribed "TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF/ THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918/ THIS EAST WINDOW HAS BEEN FITTED/ AND THEIR NAMES RECORDED HERE/ (NAMES)/ 1939-1945/ (NAMES)/ ADEN/ (NAME").
* and the "SHILLBOTTLE WAR MEMORIAL INSTITUTE/ ROLL OF HONOUR/ TO THOSE WHO SERVED IN THE GREAT WAR". (6)(7)(8)
A watching brief in 2017 to west and south of the churchfound no foundations of the original church. (9)
