Swineleas deserted village (Denwick)

157067 Swineleas. In 1622 Survey (Alnwick Castle MSS) 'since (1377) the said Swineleage hath been disvillaged and laid waste'. (1)

Centred NU 153067. The field still known as Swineleas, is under rig and furrow pasture, and lies upon a gentle south-east slope, the lower boundary running along the north bank of the Newton Burn. There are now no traces of the Deserted Village to be seen. No old tracks or fashioned stone could be seen. The lower parts of the pasture are swampy. (2)

The village was recorded as within a forested area ion the late 13th century and was probably deserted by 1377. (5)
