Burial (Kyloe)
A cist 2ft 4ins by 1ft 5ins and 1ft 4ins deep containing a broken food vessel, and over 60 fragments of a jet necklace was found on June 9th 1927 during the removal of the top soil prior to blasting at Kyloe whinstone quarry. (1)
Two further food vessels, also broken, were found above the quarries in 1910. One had thumb-nail ornament, and the other short, straight and horseshoe-shaped ribbed markings. (2)
All the finds are in the Museum of Antiquities, Newcastle. Acc. Nos. 1927.137 and 138, 1929.29 and 30. (3)
The quarry, at NU 041540448, is disused, but was comfirmed as the one in which the finds were made by a former employee there. No further finds have been reported. (4)
