Tower (Kyloe)
A tower at Buckton is listed in 1415, and in 1626 mention is made of 'Tower land, malt barn, kilne and dovecoat' [last at NU 08063857 see NU 03 NE 15]. (1)
There are no visible remains of the tower in or around the present hamlet, and neither 'tower land' nor any other significant field name is recorded on a plan of 1761 held by a local farmer. (a) Its view of the tower's association with the dovecot, however, it probably stood on the site of the farmhouse at NU 08123845, which occupies a prominent position. (2)
Listed by Cathcart King and by Dodds. (3a-b)
