Glanton village (Glanton)
In medieval times the ownership of Glanton belonged to the barony of Wark and to Whittingham. We do not know how many people may have lived in the village until the 17th century, when the Hearth Tax of 1665 lists 18 householders. By the 18th century Glanton is shown on maps as two rows of houses facing each other across a main street with a mansion at the east end.
