Hedgeley deserted medieval village. Documentary references: 1242, 1286, 1290/1, 1298, 1336, 1665, 1579. Earthwork enclosures and house-sites seen to the east of Low Hedgeley Farm on the edge of the river terrace of the Breamish. (3)

Site of medieval village of Hedgeley. House platforms with low grass covered stone banks between. One very clear, another, adjoining, less regular. Further stone banks in north-east corner of field, separated from platforms by area of quarrying or erosion. Survey by P Dixon included.
The existing management regime is appropriate. Such earthwork sites survive well in pasture fields and no erosion is being caused by the grazing of cattle and sheep. Monitor for any future erosion. (4)
