Cup and ring marked stone, found near The Ringses (Hedgeley)

(NU 0986 1861) West of the Ringses (NU 01 NE 7) are standing stones and circular foundations; the whole enclosed by a wide stone wall may be traced c 100 yds distant from the foot. Several dwelling foundations are around shallow pits; a road, with stones set up on each side, leads towards Bewick in this area, in 1864, was found - c 100 yds west of the camp a cup and ring marked
stone, it is now (c 1890) in Alnwick Castle Museum. (1)(2)(3)

There are no antiquities to be seen in the area outlined. Natural rock outcrop and surface quarrying is, however, prevelant and may have confused the early author. There are several cup and ring marked stones deposited in the cellars of Alnwick Castle Museum - some of which are not catalogued - and it was not possible to confirm the present location of the find quoted.
