Grade II* Rothbury Cross. A very fine, well-proportioned carefully detailed stone cross, in the Hexham style, designed by the late C.C. Hodges, set up in memory of the first Lord and Lady Armstrong. The previous 18th century covered cross was pulled down in 1827 (NU00SE 131). (2)
Rothbury Cross, Grade II listed building. A market cross by C C Hodges. Arts and Crafts style. The base is inscribed: 'This monument was erected in the year 1902 on the site of the ancient market cross by the inhabitants of Rothbury and other Friends in admiration and grateful rememberance of the long and useful lives of William George Baron Armstrong of Cragside G.B. (1810-1900) and of Margaret his wife (1807-1893)'. The shaft is decorated with oak scroll with stag, birds and squirrel; the cross head is Celtic. Other sides have vine scroll, rose scroll and knotwork. Measures 6.9m high. (3)
