Westhills (Thropton)

[NU 03650208] On rock adjoining earthen mound in a small plantation 170 yards west from centre of camp (Westhills), a few much weathered single cups. (1)

There are a few very miserable rock markings with a barrow near Westhills. (2)

NU 03670208. There are no plantations to the west of Westhills camp, and no earthen mound could be located. 130m due west from the centre of the earthwork, is a large boulder embedded in the turf, against the south-east side of the stone wall of a pasture field. It has one double and three single cups upon its upper surface, and a group of single cups, on the south side, partially obscured by the turf. All are midget cups. (3)

It is fairly certain that Hope-Dodds intended to indicate the plantation to the east of Westhills where there is a turf-covered cairn (NU 00 SW 32) and nearby, at NU 03950208, a large rock bearing a number of crude 'cups'. These, however, are all due to natural weathering. Cup marked boulder located by F1 surveyed at 1:2500. (4)

NU 03670209. Outcrop cup and ring marked stone. (5)
