Hexham and Allendale Railway (Hexham; Allendale; Haydon)

A single track line 13.5 miles long the Hexham and Allendale Railway was constructed to carry lead ore from the North Pennine orefield. This was opened in stages; to Langley in August 1867 and to the Catton Road in January 1868. Passenger facilities were not completed until March 1869. This line was operated by the North Eastern Railway which took over the line in 1876. The line operated until September 1930 for passengers and November 1950 for the goods service. (1)
