Royal Border Bridge (Berwick upon Tweed)

Royal Border Bridge, a railway bridge, was built in 1847 by Robert Stephenson. It is composed of two tiers of fourteen stone faced brick arches supported on stone piers. (2)

2. 1847 by Robert Stephenson. 28 high round arches (stone-faced brick) on stone piers, 126 feet above the river. Fine monumental work. (3)
Royal Border Bridge. 28 brick arches, 126ft high and of 61ft span. Total length 2160ft. Built on a slight curve. (4)
1847-50. 28 arches of 18.75m (61ft 6ins) span each. Piers are rock-faced stone, round arches of brick, stone-faced. Height 38.5m (126ft 6ins). (5)
Built by Robert Stephenson, associated with T E Harrison, the Resident Engineer was George Bruce; contractors James McKay and J Blastock. It was opened by Queen Victoria on 29th August 1850. (6)
This replaced a temporary timber viaduct constructed over the Tweed. (7)
