The Hospital of St Mary Magdalen was founded in 1301. (2)
The area known as Maudlin Fields perpetuates its name, and the traditional site of the hospital is where the farmhouse now stands. (3)
In 1910, a coffin was found when cutting a drain 200 yards north of the Edwardian fosse, and many other coffin lids and architectural fragments have been found from time to time near the same place. (4)
The site of the hospital could not be confirmed. No futher significant find have occurred in recent years. (5)
Lands were restored to the hospital in 1296, so it existed before this date. In 1356 the hospital asked for assistance as it had been destroyed and wasted by Scots. Restored by Edward II and masters continued to be appointed up to 1395. (6)
