Bowsden medieval settlement (Bowsden)
A settlement is recorded at Bowsden from at least the late 13th century, when 12 taxpayers were listed in 1296. The settlement grew through the medieval period and was described as a large village in the early 18th century. A map of 1769 shows two rows of houses and the village plan today is similar in form and layout. The medieval village is thought to lie beneath the present settlement.
