Felkington was a member of the Bishop of Durham's estate of Norhamshire. Survey of 1560/1 states there was a bastle house. 1580: five tenants. Estate probably reorganised in the early 17th century Hearth Tax 1666: 24 householders. Described by Mackenzie in 1825 as a 'small village ... of two farmholds and a few cottages'. A coalmine is indicated by Greenwood's map of 1828 just north of the village in 19th century. No earthworks remain. (3)
