Cropmarks (Horncliffe)

Cropmarks of 'U' enclosures are visible at NT 924492. (1)

A prehistoric/Roman enclosure and field boundaries, centred at NT 9245 4913, are visible as cropmarks on air photographs. The enclosure is formed by a single, narrow, sub-rectangular ditch. There is an entrance in the south-east corner. The internal area measures 0.25ha. To the west and east there are narrow ditched field boundaries that abut the enclosure at its north-west and north-east corners. Another field boundary (orientated north-south) is visible 230m to the east. (4)(5a)
