Two prehistoric carved rocks on Hunters Moor, Broomridge. (Ford)
(Marginal) North-westward, nearly a mile from Routing Linn (NT 983367) on a high ridge on Hunter's Moor (Broom Ridge) are two rock surfaces bearing incised markings. One rock has 14 figures of various types, whilst the other, 100 yds westward from the first rock, has 11 traceable figures. (1)
Scheduled under cup and ring markings. (2)
Surveyed at NT 9729837116 ('A') and NT 9703537047 ('B') Rock 'A' is the better of the two groups, with markings consisting of cups and rings and concentric circles; whilst rock 'B' has only cups. (3)
The precise location of these stones seems uncertain. The schedule map locates two incised rocks at NT 969370 (SAM 152/a) and at NT 971370 (SAM 152/b). The location of stone 'A' seems the most uncertain. (4)
NT 97193778. Broomridge 2. A westerly outcrop with millstones as well as cup and cup and ring marked stones. Three new sets of of markings have been noted. (5)
NT 969 370; NT 971 370. Two incised rocks on Broom Ridge, Hunter's Moor. Scheduled. For the designation records of this site please see The National Heritage List for England (6a, 6d-e)

Four panels on outcrop on edge of the escarpment. Two were described by Tate in 1865 and then scheduled in 1933. Later visited and recorded by Beckensall. The following information for these panels of rock art was recorded by the NADRAP project. Assessments were made 2005-2008 building on the data in the Beckensall Archive.
Broomridge 1 [NT 97298 37110] dimensions 3.5 x 4.4 x 0.8 m on a sandstone outcrop. Motifs described as 14 figures in 1865 (Tate), recorded by NADRAP as Random Cluster (1)|Multi Arc (2)|Single Ring + cup (1)|Multi Ring + cup (5)|Single Arc + cup (1)|Cup and Groove (1)|Cup Groove and arc (1)|Single or multiple cups (12)|Cup and ring (6)|Cup and multiple rings (3)|Cup with groove cutting through multiple rings (1)|Penannular (1)|Multiple penannulars (1)|Multiple arcs (1)|Oval groove enclosing cups (1)|Linear and angular groove (1)|Crossed groove (1)|Two cups linked by a groove (1)|Cup and ring with exterior groove (1)
Broomridge 2 [NT 97042 37046] dimensions 20.9 x 21.5 x 1.3 m on sandstone outcrop at original location. Described by Tate (1865) as rock with defaced inscriptions 11 figures are traceable. Motifs -Random Cluster (3)|Multi Ring + cup (1)|Cup Groove and multi ring (3)|Single or multiple cups (20)|Cup and ring (1)|Cup and multiple rings (2)|Cup and penannular (1)|Concentric rings (1)|Multiple penannulars (1)|Pick marks (1)|Cup and groove (3)|Two cups linked by a groove (1)|Curved groove (1) (6f)
Compilers note ' it is likely that Broomridge 1 and 2 are the scheduled rocks (HER 1956), since at the date of scheduling precise grid references were not available. Broomridge 3 and 4 were found later by Beckensall and NADRAP (HER 1970). (6g)
