The field system is associated with a Roman period village, prehistoric cairnfield and unenclosed settlement, and contains medieval and prehistoric remains. There are field plots, banks, lynchets and clearance cairns. A medieval field system of ridge and furrow earthworks overlies these earlier remains and was probably associated with Middleton Old Town. This is a Scheduled Monument.
