Medieval Wooler (Wooler)
Nineteenth century maps of Wooler show properties forming rows to each side of the High Street. These are typical of medieval property boundaries called burgage plots. The precise extent of the medieval town is not known but is mentioned in the 12th century when it is referred to as Welnfver (in 1186) and Wulloir (in 1232).l
