Bronze Age round house on Fredden Hill (Wooler)
NT 951268. Unenclosed site and associated Bronze Age field system. (1)
NT 95182687. Fredden Hill settlement. A sub-circular enclosure on a slight natural platform on north-west facing hillslope. The diameter of the enclosure is c.20m. Entrance 4m wide on west side. There are no traces of internal occupation. (2)

A Bronze Age unenclosed settlement and associated field system surviving as earthworks. The round house survived as a circular enclosure with a bank of stones and earth 2m wide and 0.2m high. The field system concists of an iregular embanked area defined by a bank 0.25m high, containing internal subdivisions and about 20 clearence cairns up to 7m in diameter. Scheduled. (4)

The area surrounding the scheduled area has been afforested, as shown on the current (2003) OS 1:10000 map of the area. Prior to planting, the ground was prepared by deep ploughing, causing damage to adjacent unscheduled features. A published photograph, taken in 1981, shows a tractor in the process of ploughing out a small cairn. (5b)
