Fredden Hill (Wooler)
NT 952272 A cairnfield and penannular enclosure, perhaps of Bronze Age date, found north of Fredden Hill. The cairnfield consists of a number of small cairns, 5m across 0.75m high, some probably clearance cairns, perhaps associated with the penannular enclosure but at least one is a burial cairn, the remains of a cist showing in the body of the mound. The penannular enclosure, with entrance to the north-west, is defined by banks of stone 0.9m wide, 0.5m high and measures approximately 30m x 40m. No hut circles or sub divisions are visible within the
enclosure. (1)
Overlooking the Trows. Approximately 80 cairns, some round, some octagonal, ranging from 3m-7m and upto 1.3m high. Several sections of curving stony banks. South part of cairnfield is crossed by several old trackways representing realignments of Wooler to Commonburn House
road. Traces of cist from one cairn.
