Memorial Cross (Haydon)
A late 19th century memorial cross. It has a Celtic-style wheel cross with interlace and other ornaments and the arms of Derwentwater. It is inscribed: IN MEMORY OF JAMES AND CHARLES, VISCOUNTS LANGLEY, EARLS OF DERWENTWATER, BEHEADED ON TOWER HILL, 24 FEB 1716 AND 8 DEC 1746, FOR LOYALTY TO THEIR LAWFUL SOVEREIGN. It was erected by the historian, Cadwallader Bates, who restored Langley Castle in the 1890s. (1)
