Church of St Aidan, Thorneyburn (Tarset with Greystead)

Parish church built in 1818 by H H Seward for the Commissioners of Greenwich Hospital. Built of stone with Lakeland slate roof. It has a west tower, porch, nave, chancel and vestry. (1)(2)

The church, together with the walls, rectory and stables, is the most perfectly preserved of those built by H H Seward for the Commissioners of Greenwich Hospital. (3)

Church includes several war memorials:
* a plaque inscribed "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF/ THOSE WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919/ (NAMES)".
* a wooden pulpit inscribed as "A THANK OFFERING TO GOD FOR THOSE/ MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO RETURNED".
* a pair of stone tablets. (4)(5)(6)
