Sting Cross (Alwinton; Alnham)

(Area NT 93 12) On the southern slopes of Cushat Law is a spot known as Sting Cross, where on a ridge between Cushat Law and Hogden Law, stood a stone cross which may have been a boundary cross of the Newminster lands. (1)

(Name centred NT93301295) Sting Head. (2)

Area centred NT93291298. No further information was discovered regarding the site of this cross. It possibly stood on or near the present boundary between Alnham and Kidland where it crosses the saddle known as Sting Head. It is possible that the socket stone of this cross is one of the three now lying in the churchyard at Alnham. (3)

County Records Office checked but no further information regarding this cross. (4)
