Roman coin, Blyth dry dock (Blyth)
Roman brass of Constans (AD 337-350) found when excavating the second Blyth dry dock. Presented to the Society of Antiquaries, Newcastle upon Tyne by the Rev G Rome Hall. (1)
[NZ 3129 8196] The second of the five dry docks at Blyth was opened in 1888. It is now known as No 1 dock and is the one nearest to the High Ferry. [Indicated on 6 inch to investigator]. There is no record of any finds being made during the excavation. (2)
No further information discovered about the exact provenance or circumstances of this find. This coin could not be traced among the many hundreds exhibited at Blackgate Museum, Newcastle. (3)
