Prehistoric finds on Newbiggin Moor (Newbiggin-by-the-Sea)

A leaf-shaped spear head, corroded and slightly imperfect in one of the flanges, found in July 1878 on Newbiggin Moor, with two other less perfect specimens and an iron stirrup. Presented to Alnwick Castle Museum by Dr Reid, Newbiggin, case H no 244. (1)

No further information was discovered regarding the exact site of these finds. Photo. Newbiggin Moor, now a golf course, is a level area with low cliffs and sand dunes on the seaward side and sandhills to the north. There is no trace of barrows or earthworks that could be associated with this find.
The spearhead first mentioned in T1 is preserved in Alnwick Castle Museum. The location of the other two was not ascertained during field investigation. (2)
