Cist burial (Ashington)
A British urn, 6-1/4ins high with some bone fragments was discovered in a stone cist during excavating the foundations of a cottage at Hirst near Ashington Colliery. Two other urns, 4-1/2ins and 5ins high respectively, were found at the same place. The three urns were donated to Museum of Society of Antiquaries Newcastle by Mr Henry Richardson of Backworth. (1)
