((Marginal) There was formerly a chapel in Shotton (NZ 225780) founded by Sir J de Plessis in 1269 or 1270. It is last mentioned c.1491 when Sir Ralph Widdrington 'appropriated certain waste chapels .... and territories of Schotton ..' ' the site is forgotten. (1)
Enquiries made in Shotton failed to discover anything about the chapel; nor did an examination of the fields around the village show any significant remains or foundations. (2)
Perusal of Tithe Maps of 1728, 1761 and 1805 gave no information on this site. (3)
The endowment in 1270 of the chapel recorded a manse with several buildings on its northern side and two tofts adjoining to the east, 'with their contiguous buildings'. (4)
