NZ 139 983. Weldon pill box. This pillbox was part of the Coquet Stop Line which extended from Amble to the headwaters of the river Coquet. Any attack was expected from the north as pillboxes were built at strategic points on the south side of the river. The best preserved portion of the stop line is between Felton and Hepple. (1)

NZ 139 983. Grade II.

Constructed 1940, of concrete on an elongated hexagonal plan, with a flat roof. Single storey, partly below ground level. The elongated front elevation has 3 rifle embrasures with a single machine gun to each chamfered side front, while the rear elevation has two rifle embrasures and a protected door. Constructed as part of the Coquet Line. (5d)
