Tile Works (Netherwitton)
This is the site of Stanton Tileworks. There were many small brick and tile works in the south of Northumberland during the latter part of the 19th century. These would have mainly produced agricultural drainage pipes and tiles for the many farms of the area. In some cases such tile works were operated by the major estates of the area. Many of these sites were only short-lived. This is one of those short-lived examples; it was shown by the first edition Ordnance Survey map-makers in the 1860s - though the site was working in the 1850s - but was then closed and had disappeared by the 1890s.
