Area centred NZ 13168978. Discovered during field investigation the extensive remains of the depopulated village of Stanton, comprising steadings with associated garths, enclosure banks and an old road. Rig and furrow ploughing is adjacent in many instances on the eastern face of the village.
No field names were obtainable though the early village was known of by local tradition.
The reason for desertion was not ascertained but was possibly industrial. (1)

This site can be interpreted more properly as the remains of shrinkage rather than depopulation, and is confined to a small area at NZ 13228992. Though correctly described in general, surface indications are mainly slight (apart from pronounced rig and furrow) and do not merit survey action. (2)

Watching brief carried out parallel with the road to Abshiel from Stanton Road in December 2006. No structures or finds were made in the trench which crossed the whole width of the field to a depth of about 0.45m, at the northern side of this field. (3)
