Grade II* Milbourne Hall.
1807-9 by John Patterson of Edinburgh. Stone, with plinth, cornice, strings at lower sill and upper sill level, two storeys. Entrance porch has double Tuscan columns and cornice. Angular plan with shallow canted bay windows, but with oval rooms inside.
Grade II* Stable court at Milbourne Hall.
Same date as house, and attached at rear. Large octagonal block with centre yard, entrance has pedimented archway with lantern and cupola. (2)
Milbourne Hall and stable block, Grade I. Country house with attached stable court. 1801 by John Patterson. Ashlar; slate roof. Unified plan. Octagonal stable court with west gate tower. Linking range to main block with canted bays on three sides and canted rear angles. (3)
Milbourne Hall, 1807-9 by Patterson of Edinburgh. Externally very plain. Plan ingeniously worked out so that nearly every room inside is oval. (4)
Building recording in 2008 of the south-west quadrant of the service range, concluded that the exterior of the building has been little altered since it was built and survives well. However, the internal features and their external elevations bear little resemblance to those on contemporary plans for the house. The interior spaces have been altered considerably since construction. The elevations are of coursed and squared (Belsay) sandstone with roofs of graduated Lakeland slates. (5)
