Capheaton deserted medieval village (Capheaton)

The old village of Capheaton, which lay immediately west of the Hall, was pulled down c.1786. (1)

Listed under empty townships. (2)

Desertion probably followed the emparking of Capheaton Hall, but there are no visible depopulation remains in the area cited, which is largely re-afforested. Nothing visible on available aerial photographs (RAF 1946). (3)

Centred at NZ 03456 80376 are two areas of possible settlement earthworks visible on lidar imagery. (4)
