Roman Fortlet (Belsay)
This small Roman fortlet is on the route of a suspected Roman road running from Whitchester to west of Selby's Cove in the Simonside Hills. It is in good condition and measures 43m by 33m. The entrance is visible from the southern side and stonework on the north-west corner is clearly visible. The Roman road can be seen descending to the fortlet from the plantation called Sharp Law. The road leaves the fortlet to the west and zigzags down the cliff. The site can be seen as a slightly square earthwork on aerial photographs of the area.
