Kirkheaton (Capheaton)
A settlement at Kirkheaton is first known from documentary evidence in 1296. It was then known as the manor of Little Heton. It is described as a hamlet in the 14th century. Land at Kirkheaton was enclosed in 1722 and earthwork remains of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation can be seen in fields today.
