Stocksfield former medieval settlement (Broomley and Stocksfield)
The earliest reference to the village of Stocksfield is in the 1296 Lay Subsidy, when three taxpayers were recorded. Unfortunately there are few references after this date and there seems only to have been a single farm from at least the 17th century. There are no earthworks of the medieval settlement to be seen. Stocksfield may have been a demesne estate rather than a village.
