The Tollbooth in Ovingham was leased on July 2nd 1671 to John Halsell. The present cross is understood to mark the site of the Tollbooth. (1)
'The cross at the north end of Ovingham Bridge was moved there from the village green in my father's time. Thus the Tollbooth would be somewhere on the green, but I have lived here all my life and have neither heard nor seen anything of it.' (2)
The village green is centred at NZ 08446363: there is no trace of a Tollbooth. The cross is of no archaeological importance. (3)
