In 1294 Gilbert de Umfraville II claimed as his manorial rights - gallows and pillory - at Ovingham. The Gallows Hill between Horsley and Ovingham is mentioned in the 16th century. (2)
NZ 08456488. A symbol probably representing the gallows, is shown at this point on a map of 1629. (3)
Site is low lying land to the south of Gallow Hill; there is nothing to indicate the site of the gallows. The site of the pillory was not ascertained. (4)
