Lee former medieval settlement (Broomhaugh and Riding)
A settlement is recorded at Lee from the mid-13th century onwards. It seems to have comprised only a few buildings and farms. Four taxpayers were recorded there in 1296, and six tenants in 1524. Only two buildings were shown on Armstrong's map of 1769 and in 1842 there was a farmstead and two or three cottages. Lee is believed to have stood where the modern settlement of Beauclerc now lies and the area is now covered by modern housing.
