Cronkley Slate Pencil Mill (Forest-in-Teesdale)
On the north side of Cronkley Fell is a ruined stone building in which pencils were made. They were made from the slate which can be found here. The factory worked from about 1847 to 1889 and was deserted by 1890. The remains of the walls can still be seen. The remains of a wheel pit and a small store are also visible. The slate came from two small quarries nearby (1).
