Burnt mound, Foggerthwaite, Eggleston (Eggleston)
This is the remains of a Prehistoric, possibly Bronze Age burnt mound. It is a pile of burnt stones, ash and charcoal next to a stream. One, which had been excavated, contained a trough, which may have held water. The water may have been heated with the hot stones for cooking or to make a sauna (1).
