War Memorial Gun, once outside the Police Station, Stanhope (Stanhope)
It is documented that a captured German gun was mounted against Stanhope Police Station after the First World War as a memorial relic of the conflict. The installation was not kindly received by local ex-servicemen who manhandled the gun to Stone Bridge and hurled it into the river where it gradually broke up - the barrel eventually being salvaged for scrap.
