WW1 Tank, South Park, Darlington (Darlington)
It is documented that a tank was placed here at the Victoria Embankment entrance to South Park shortly after the end of the First World War. It was given, as a memorial, to the inhabitants of the town by the National War Savings Committee in recognition of their financial contribution to the war effort. The tank never saw active service but was driven into position and then had its workings removed and was left as an empty shell. The tank eventually disappeared without record, likely used to fuel the war effort during WW2. (1)
