War Memorial Headstone, Trimdon Grange Cemetery (Trimdon Grange)

Memorial headstone on a paved plot surrounded by a low stone wall, located on the right hand side of the main path through the cemetery roughly 50ft from the gate on the western side. The headstone is set on two steps at one end of the paved area with a rounded top and a pillar carved into a sunken area at each side of the front face. The inscription on the headstone reads: "This / memorial / was erected by / the inhabitants of the Trimdons / in conjunction with their memorial / in the Miner's Hall, Trimdon Grange. / To the memory of the men / who gave their lives in the Great War / 1914-1918. / They died for Freedom and Honour". The riser of the top then reads: "Also the Second World War / 1939-1945". Unveiled 1950. (1-2)

The apostrophe in the word "Miner's" is in the wrong place, it should read Miners', whilst the memorial in the Hall that is referred to is now located in St. Alban's Church at the south end of Lillie Terrace.
