A building first appears on this site on the first edition Ordnance Survey maps of the 1860's (1) and is labelled as a school on the second edition (2). The building remains as a school until the seventh epoch OS maps of the 1970's (3), but whether it was used as a school right through to this period more information is needed. The building is now used as Stainton Village Hall. The surrounding area featured many army camps throughout the early to mid 20th century and the importance of the village hall throughout and after this period is reflected by the presence of the village war memorial in a walled garden adjacent to the hall and the fact that the hall contains at least two features dedicated as war memorials (4).
