Grange Plantation Rifle Range, south west of Newfield (Chester-le-Street)

A pre First World War rifle range appears here on the second edition Ordnance Survey maps of 1894-1899 (1). The range follows a section of the Twizell Burn southwest of Newfield through Grange Plantation, the targets labelled on the south side of the burn. The range is no longer labelled on third edition OS mapping data (2) but the site might still have been in use during the First World War.
