Encircled cross surmounting a slim square column on a two tiered pedestal atop three steps. Made entirely of grey granite and set within a kerbed and gravelled enclosure with low iron railings, all within a small area of paving at the entrance to the cemetery on the east side of Church Lane. First World War dedication is carried on the front face of the larger lower tier of the pedestal, in honour and memory of the men of the parish of Hunwick and Helmington who made the supreme sacrifice. WW1 names carried on the remaining three faces of the lower pedestal whilst the dates 1914-1918 are found on the front riser of the top step. Unveiled 1922. Dedications for WW2 added later on the upper section of the pedestal at the base of the column bearing the cross: dates inside a carved laurel wreath on front face, names on other three faces. (1-2)
