White stone obelisk on square pedestal featuring decorative stonework around the top with the words "Lest We Forget" and a two tiered plinth at the base. The whole rests on two shallow stone steps and is set within an enclosure formed of five short stone pillars connected by iron railings. Front face of the obelisk carved with a sword, rifle and wreath in half relief. Front face of the pedestal carries the dedication: To the honour and in sacred memory of the brave men from Howden-le-Wear and District who fell in the First World War, 1914-1918; names are listed in two columns below. Names from 1939-1945 are found on the risers of both tiers of the plinth. Originally unveiled 1924, the WW2 names obviously added later. (1-2)
