Stone cross of wheel type on a tapering shaft resting on a two-tiered pedestal at the top of four steps. Tapered shaft has a twisted cable design raised around its front edge, four raised bosses on each arm of the cross and a central boss on the crosspiece. First World War dates are carved onto the front face of the shaft with the beginning of the dedication underneath '1918' and continuing on the front face of the pedestal. 'Hamsterley Colliery' is carved into the lower tier of the front face of the pedestal. Names and regiments of WW1 dead are incised into the other three edges of the upper pedestal whilst the three remaining lower pedestal faces carry the names of WW2 dead. Additional slab added at the foot of the pedestal in 2000 following restoration of the memorial so that future generations can continue to honour sacrifices made in the World Wars. There is also a memorial bench located just behind the cross within the same paved area, commissioned by Hamsterley and Low Westwood Residents Association, dedicated to all who served our country in conflict (NEWMP H140.02).
